Range Rules—Pistol & Rifle Shooters

YOU MUST BE A  CURRENT MEMBER OF THE MAPLETON GUN CLUB IN ORDER TO SHOOT ON OUR PISTOL AND RIFLE RANGE.   AS OF 11-07-2007, YOU MUST BE A CURRENT PAID UP “MAPLETON GUN CLUB” MEMBER TO SHOOT  ON THE RIFLE AND PISTOL RANGES.

When using the pistol or rifle range you are responsible for your safety and others at the range.  Be kind, courteous and safe to others using the range. Follow the four primary gun safety rules and insist that other do the same.

  1. All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.

  2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. (For those who insist that this particular gun is unloaded, see Rule 1.)

  3. Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target. This is the Golden Rule. Its violation is directly responsible for about 60 percent of inadvertent discharges.

  4. Identify your target, and what is behind it. Never shoot at anything that you have not positively identified.

·Paper targets only to be used on the pistol and rifle range no exceptions.  Pistol shooting is not permitted on the rifle ranges.  Pistols will be shot only between #2, #3 and #4 trap houses.  When the pistol range is completed no rifles will be permitted on the pistol range.  All targets are to be north (the far side) of the drainage ditch so that ricochets will not hit the trap houses.

  • No glass bottles, Steel targets, exploding targets or glass containers of any kind are to be used as targets or permitted on the range or parking lots at any time.  Paper targets only no exceptions no excuses you will lose your range privileges.

  • DO NOT SHOOT AT ANY OF OUR STEEL POSTS 0R PVC STAKES IN FRONT OF OUR RANGES. These are our distance markers for the Trap Fields.

  • Please take down your targets. Break down cardboard boxes so that they will not blow onto the adjoining field. Take your targets or boxes home or dispose of them in the trash dumpster provided. Clean up when you are done shooting.

  • Trash barrels and dumpsters are for range use only (not for dumping of personal garbage.)

  • Please pick up your empty shotgun shell hulls and Pistol & Rifle brass. Please place in barrels provided.

  • There will be no shooting of targets off of the Green Trap Houses and on the roofs.

  • No laying or standing or setting clay target throwers on these trap house roofs.

  • If you are bringing one non-member along to shoot more than twice (except spouses or immediate family), you should ask the person to join the club.  It will not only help the club out, but it will give them a place to target practice in the future.

We would like to thank those shooters who voluntarily clean up the range when they are down here.

This club was built over 50 years ago primarily as a Trapshooting facility.  Do your part to help keep this range for our future generations.  Let’s not become another Australia or England who can no longer own guns.

  • Some of our MEMBERS or  STARK County Law Enforcement will be checking the range to be sure you are a paid up member.  Please do not be offended if a club member asks you if you are a paid–up member.  He or she may not know you.  NOTE: Club dues are due January 1 of each year.  PLEASE HAVE YOUR CARD WITH YOU AND BE PREPAIRED TO SHOW THEM YOU CURRENT YEAR MGC CARD IF THEY ASK YOU.

Again, do your part to keep this range open:

              a.  Renew your club membership yearly.( Dues are payable Jan. 1 each year.)

                b. Join the NRA and help fight the anti-gunners. MAPLETON G.C. is a NRA MEMBER CLUB.

                c. Help police the other shooters who are using our range and not going by our range Rules.  IF anyone gives you a hard time, try to get their name or vehicle license number do not get into an argument with them.  Contact us, and we will take care of the problem.  330-488-1800.

NOTE:  Because of safety reasons the Rifle & Pistol Range is closed during our regular trapshooting hours, when Law Enforcement Training is going on, when the club is rented out for reunions or other private parties, and whenever work is being done on the ranges.   If we are working on the ranges, such as mowing or working on the traphouses, check with us.  We can tell you how long we will be working, and if you will be able to shoot soon or not.

BECAUSE OF SAFETY TO OUR  WORKERS, ALL BENCH SHOOTING MUST CEASE BY  5:00 PM ON THURSDAY and UNTIL ALL TRAPSHOOTING IS COMPLETED AND OUR WORKERS ARE DONE CLEANING UP THE RANGE ON WEEKEND SHOOTS.

Thank you for your cooperation.                                                                                                   Mapleton Gun Club Officers
